From Santo Domingo airport (SDQ) to Punta Cana

The route from Santo Domingo's Las Américas airport (SDQ) to Punta Cana and Bávaro, the drive time without traffic, the three tolls, and how the trip works by bus or Uber.

The route
Worked out with the OSRM routing engine on OpenStreetMap maps, the route from the airport to Bávaro takes these roads, in this order:
- Autopista Las Américas
- Autovía del Este
- Autopista del Este
- Circunvalación de La Romana
- Autopista del Coral
- Bulevar Turístico del Este
Distance and time
These are calculations made with OSRM on OpenStreetMap, and they don't count traffic: they aren't a published figure, and the real trip can take longer.
- Las Américas airport to Bávaro: 176.3 km, about 2 h 28 min.
- Las Américas airport to Punta Cana airport (PUJ): 163.5 km, about 2 h 14 min.
- Punta Cana airport to Bávaro: 16.8 km, about 20 min.
Tolls
There are three RD Vial toll plazas on the route. In category 1, each one costs RD$100, so RD$300 each way:
- La Romana toll
- Coral 1 toll
- Coral 2 toll
The Las Américas toll, at km 22, is west of the airport entrance: if you leave the airport heading east, you don't pay it. The RD$100 rate has applied since January 15, 2025.
By bus
The Expreso Bávaro bus doesn't leave from the airport. It leaves from its stops in Santo Domingo, on Calle Juan Sánchez Ramírez near the corner of Máximo Gómez or at Parque Enriquillo, so from the airport you first need to get to one of them by taxi.
The company asks you to arrive an hour before departure and puts the trip at about 3 hours.
Uber
At Las Américas there are two Uber pickup points under a May 2025 agreement between Uber, Aerodom and the SICHALA taxi drivers' union, as the newspaper Hoy reported on May 29, 2025.
If your flight lands at Punta Cana airport instead, its website lists Uber Select and UberX, with the pickup zones still to be defined.
